Same as everyone else — tech support sucks! Plan on spending a lot of time on hold.
If they tell you they have to try a few things and they will call back - don’t believe them - you will never get a callback.
These problems were here before the transition started before the transition started and have just gotten worse.
If you have an “info only” site that you never have to change - the price is good.
if there is anything they can do to mess up your site, they will
The price is good, but your get what you pay for

We have had nothing but problems with Start Logic. They were good for a while, but ever since this whole “transfer to their new platform” stuff started happening, everything has been a nightmare. Our Website and Email have been down many times in the past few months. In fact, for the past couple of weeks our email has been in and out of working and there has been a significant delay in both sending and receiving email.

Their 24/7/365 support is terrible. You will sit on hold for 30 minutes to 1 hour before anyone can help you and that is the same for the Live Chat. When someone finally answers the phone, you will rarely get to speak to someone who can actually help you, they usually just say that they will have one of their engineers look at the problem. The engineers are VERY slow at actually resolving the problem and almost never contact you when the issue is resolved like they say they’re going to. Back in November 2007, our email was actually down for over a week and they weren’t sure if they were going to be able to find all of our emails for us. On of their “engineers” had transferred our website to the new platform but they had forgotten to transfer our email at the same time. Not a good way to serve a business who is very reliant on email!!!

Right now we are 3 months away from ending our 2 year contract with them and I have contacted them to get a refund on those last three months. Thankfully, they are going to let us do that. I would NOT recommend using this company, our experience has been awful.

Their migration process is not a migration. They ‘migrated’ the server for my website and mail over a weekend. What migration means evidently to startlogic is destroy what is there, NONE of my email accounts worked, the website was down and, oh yes, they changed my console access id and password and didn’t tell me what it was. Now that’s what I call a smooth transition.

Access to tech support totally sucks. Then after being forced to call technical support on a Sunday morning at 7 a.m — and after three, LONG waits for technical support (wait time was 45 minutes and 35 minutes and 1 at an hour and 25 minutes!!)

After the first call whose wait time was 45 minutes I was infuriatingly told they would take a message and someone would get back to me by the end of the day. And they didn’t.

After the third call, and long wait times, they were finally able to reinitiatilze my maintenance id so I could logon, (Oh, they started out the call telling me to logon to set my security question, lol. Twice. this after I said I can’t logon.) Back to my emails, after getting the logon, I had to reset up all my people’s emails from scratch. Had this information been included in the ‘migration email’ it would have saved all of us alot of grief.

Now the website — remember those 3 tech calls? each tech person had their own theory of why my pages were down, it took 4 contacts to finally get all the bugs out and another 2.5 hours on Monday. Oh, did they forget to tell us that CGI had to be enabled? And that it didn’t help that I enabled it, they had to do it from the back end.

Communications suck. Support stinks. I’m outta here.

I cannot believe how badly this company treat their customers. We’ve had a website hosted by them for just over two years now. We were recently informed that they were moving to a new platform and that we would need to login to the new area after the transition had been completed.

When we logged into the new area we couldn’t find how to update our website (we use their website creator). I phoned support (an hour wait before I got through) and I told the support rep and he said a few other users had reported this and that someone would get back to me. Two days later when they replied via email they hadn’t even answered my question. They just repeated that they had moved over to a new platform and that I would need to access my account from there.

So back on the phone again (another hour wait). I was told by the support rep that if I wanted to update my website that I would need to use HTML coding. I pointed out that if I knew HTML coding then I wouldn’t be using their website creator in the first place. She then told me that I can easily learn HTML if I just go looking on the internet. I don’t have the time or the inclination to start learning HTML and all the while we are unable to update our website. I then asked about new website creator icon in the new control panel and was then told that this is the new creator and if I wanted to use it that I would need to completely rebuild my website. I was not amused.

I tried to put a message on the front page of our website to let our customers know, but it wouldn’t let us publish and emails to us via start logic were being bounced so we weren’t even allowed to let our customers know what was going on. The only thing that stopped us leaving there and then is the fact that we needed our website up and running again asap.

So I logged into the new website creator and great, the templates are different, so I now not only have to rebuild our website, I have to use a new design. Our website has 11 pages, but we were now told that if we wanted 11 pages then we would need to upgrade our account plan. Jeeeze, what is it with these people? We’ll stay with them until our account comes up for renewal, but then we’re off. What a crap company.

This is a follow up to my last Comment.
When i last spoke to you i was on the phone with startlogics support People. it took over an hour to get someone on the phone.
thats when this comment comes into play.

a very polite Female representative answered the phone and asked me what the Problem was and i calmly explained about how when they moved my website to the new platform it had stopped working. after much waiting she returned to the phone and wanted me to explain exactly what was happening. i told her that the lame encoder that i use was non executable. she asked me for my url so she could reproduce the problem. i explained to her that to reproduce the problem she would have to signup and try to upload an mp3. then try and encode it to a lofi version.

anyway after i had given her the url to my site she came back on the line and proudly announced that the website worked fine and she was looking at it right now. i said yes it lights up but it wont function like it used to on the old platform.
again she told me that she could not fix the problem without being able to reproduce the it.
again i gave vivid details about how to signup and even volunteered to email her a hifi mp3 that she could upload and try it for herself.
she did not.
she only said that the site seemed to be working fine again.
thats when it hit me. she was dumber than a 4×4post! and was not going to be any help at all.
so i asked her if anybody there had ever heard about a thing called lame binary. she asked somebody by yelling over her shoulder and i could hear in the background somebody yell we dont support that anymore!
i told them that i needed this thing to work
and could somebody just go over to their control panel and click the permissions button
and change me to something that would enable the thing to work (thats all it would take to fix this thing but it was no…)
then i told them i was going to have to take my site and go. the polite lady said that i should call billing and cancell my subscription. i did and moved to globat
now
my site is up. the people at globat were so polite and Knowledgeable (this is probably because they were trying to sell me something) i signed up even when they told me that the lame encoder still wont work.
their servers are faster. if these guys mess me up like startlogic i will give you a blow by blow description of that when it happens..
as far as the lame encoder i think that the developers of the thing will probably come up
with a workaround soon..
