Make Godaddy A Nice Place For Wordpress To Live

If you are Godaddy as a host for your Wordpress blog you should take a little time to make sure you have your hosting account configured properly. People who started their hosting plans before 2008 may have older versions of the software that drives Wordpress.

To verify your hosting account settings go ahead and log Godaddy. Then mouse over Hosting & Servers, and click on My Hosting Account. Next put a check in the box to the left of the hosting account you want to manage and click Manage Account. This will bring you to your Hosting Control Center.

Pay close attention to your Hosting Configuration and PHP Version.  If your Hosting Configuration is less than version 2.0 you should backup your database and upgrade.  Anyone who isn’t running on a Linux based server should really change that as well.

Next have a look at your PHP Version.  In the example the hosting account is using version 4.x, this needs to be updated.  Here’s how to upgrade your version of PHP to 5.2.5.  Move down in your Hosting Control Center to the Content Tab.  Click on it and then select the Add On Languages button.  This is where you choose your PHP version.

I would highly recommend you backup your database now if you haven’t yet.  Select PHP 5.x and hit continue.  It can take awhile for your version to update, but the wait is well worth it.  Wordpress 2.5.1 has some great new features that just won’t work with older versions of PHP.
