First of all, if you have a functioning brain, please do not use Yahoo hosting. It may seem easy but it is neither cheap nor easy to use, particularly if you want to use Wordpress to blog. There are so many hosting companies that are so much better. Now if you are one of those that are stuck with Yahoo (like me who purchased this blog and could not transfer to another host because Yahoo just makes it nearly impossible), try not to upgrade your Wordpress program. For reasons only the smartypants at Yahoo know, they choose to run outdated versions of Wordpress that not only deprives its customers of new functionalities offered by Wordpress but also exposes them to security flaws. Upgrading Wordpress on your own can cause a major disaster because some of the software used by Yahoo is incompatible with latest versions of Wordpress causing major disruptions. Now if you do want to upgrade (or as in my case, who upgraded and then realized that the permalinks were no longer directing properly because most likely you are using Yahoo customizable permalink plugin), go ahead and do it, but then try this, as wonderfully explained here. Hopefully everything should work great. tag: yahoo hosting
Hi Everyone, Blue Host who in their infinite wisdom deleted all our files and removed Celebrity Dirty Laundry last year has now done the same thing to our sister site Blue Host is one of the most unprofessional companies I have ever seen. Rather than give notice we just woke up this morning and the blog was gone. We tried to back up the files and move to another domain but all our access has been suspended. When we got on line with live chat they told us we would need to speak to another department in four hours. So Celebrity Fashion Watcher has been down since last night and will remain down until we get a hold of the company. When I mentioned to the "nice" fellow at Blue Host how inconvenient this was for us and our advertisers. He replied "your problem, too bad" and gave a little laugh… Have you every wanted to strangle someone??? That was us this morning. Blue Host being the unprofessional company they are removed the site and yes they notified me at 12:49 PM last night after they took the site down. Rather than do it in the day when we could have contacted someone they chose to do it overnight. It seems from the issue that we were causing server congestion. Who knew? It would have been nice to have been informed and given a couple of days. SO FOR ALL OUR READERS OR FRIEND WHO ARE USING BLUEHOST. Transer your domain as soon as you can. Don’t let this disaster happen to you. For any readers of Celebrity Fashion Watcher - be patient we will be back up and running ASAP. Thank you for you support Robyn & Annemarie tag: bluehost
Are “HOST REVIEW” sites honest? Are they unbiased, impartial, and factual… or are they just after your money? How does a hosting company get on the “top 10″ list? Amazingly most hosting reviews websites have one thing in common: They are getting paid by hosting companies for reviews (either directly in the form of advertising or indirectly via affiliate commissions) — making their reviews extremely biased, one-sided, and highly questionable in terms of accuracy. They all promote the same group of companies. The reason that the same hosting companies always make it to the “top” of the hosting comparison charts is because those companies, one way or another, pay to be listed there. These hosts include Host Monster, Blue Host, Lunar Pages, IX Webhosting, InMotionHosting, StartLogic, Host Pappa, Pow Web, etc. It’s a well-known fact web hosting companies running their affiliate programs through Commission Junction offer among the highest affiliate commissions in the hosting industry. Thus “clever” PPC (pay per click) affiliate marketers decided: why not create websites with “top web hosting companies” lists and list these companies as “top”? Hosting company reviews seldom base their “rating” on their quality of service (although many claim to). Instead, most of them rate a webhost on the *size* of the affiliate commission. Those web hosts offering the highest commissions usually get the top spots — because those hosting companies pay the most money. So the next time you’re looking for the best web hosting company (and you undoubtedly come across a “reviews” site), STOP AND THINK: What’s their true objective? Are they providing you with impartial, unprejudiced facts? Or are they simply selling you a bill of goods, deceptively packaged in a “Top-10″ list bought and paid for in the Twilight Zone?
